Hollybrook Park Opens Its Doors: A New Chapter in Community Living in Bray
St John of God Housing Association was proud to officially open Hollybrook Park, a newly developed residential home in Bray, Co. Wicklow, providing four people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to live in a purpose-designed home within their local community. The facility was officially opened by Tánaiste Simon Harris TD at a special event attended by residents, families, staff, community partners and invited guests.
Developed in partnership with St John of God Community Services Dublin South East, the new home represents a significant step forward in supporting people to live with greater independence, dignity and choice. The residents, who previously lived in a congregated setting, have now moved into a high-support, community-based home designed around their individual needs and aspirations.
The house has been extensively adapted to provide a safe, comfortable and accessible environment, including specialist facilities and personalised supports that enable residents to enjoy the benefits of community living while receiving the care they require. A dedicated support team works alongside residents to promote independence, wellbeing and participation in everyday life.
Speaking at the opening, Tánaiste Simon Harris highlighted the importance of creating inclusive communities where people with disabilities can live, thrive and belong. He described the development as an important milestone for both the residents and the wider Bray community.
Michelle Thunder, CEO of St John of God Housing Association, said the opening reflects the organisation’s commitment to providing person-centred housing solutions that empower people to live fulfilling lives within their communities. She acknowledged the support of Wicklow County Council, the Department of Housing, the HSE and the many staff members whose dedication helped bring the project to life.
Beyond bricks and mortar, Hollybrook Park is about creating a true home. It offers residents a place where they can build relationships, develop daily living skills, make choices about how they live and enjoy the security and sense of belonging that comes from being part of a local neighbourhood. Families have welcomed the move, knowing their loved ones are living in an environment that promotes both independence and quality of life.
