How do I apply?

  • If you choose to live in a Saint John of God Housing Association house, speak with your care provider.
  • Register on the local authority’s housing list and state that you wish to be housed by Saint John of God.
  • You will be interviewed by someone from the Housing Association, who will arrange to get Garda clearance for you.
  • If you pass the interview, you will have to be approved by the local authority.
  • It is your choice where you want to live in the community. If you don’t like the accommodation you have been offered, you can refuse it.
  • If you accept, your rent will be based either on your income or set at €79.00 per week.
  • You may have to pay a service charge, depending on where you live.
  • The Housing Association has to register your tenancy with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB), which protects your rights as a tenant.
  • On receipt of an acceptance letter, you will be invited to sign a Tenancy Agreement and you will have to agree to keep within the terms of the agreement.
  • Maintenance of your home is monitored by your care provider. You can apply for a grant to help you purchase furniture and white goods in your new home.
  • If you ever want to leave your home, you will have to give a minimum notice to the Housing Association.
